Software that should work
because it's built to serve.
Should Work Software is a small studio building highly functional, easy-to-use applications for families and the companies that support them — with the people who'll actually use it at the center of every decision.
Why we do this
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve.”
Mark 10:45
That's the standard we hold our work to. Our faith isn't a footnote on this company — it's the reason it exists. We believe building software is a calling before it's a career, and that a calling to serve means putting real people first: the parent juggling a dozen things at once, the small team trying to get something right, the family just trying to stay connected. We build for them, not for a metrics dashboard.
Faith
Every product starts with conviction, not just a spec. We build the way we'd want to be served — honestly, carefully, without cutting corners just because no one would notice.
Service
We measure success by whether we made someone's life easier — not by how impressive the stack looks. Good software disappears into the background of a good life.
Privacy
Your data is not our business model. We collect only what a feature genuinely needs, say so plainly, and never sell it. Trust, once broken, doesn't come back — so we don't risk it.
How we build
Highly functional. Genuinely easy to use.
We'd rather build one thing well than ten things poorly. Everything we ship is judged against a simple question: does this actually help the person on the other end of it?
Built for real people
Families and companies are our two kinds of customers, and we design for both — simple enough for a grandparent, sturdy enough for a growing team.
Made to last
We'd rather ship less and have it actually work than ship everything and hope. Reliability is a feature, not an afterthought.
Private by default
Minimal data collection, plain-language policies, and no dark patterns designed to extract more than you meant to give.
Personally accountable
We're a small, direct team. When you reach out, you're talking to the people who actually wrote the code.
The one-stop shop for holiday gift-giving.
Dorea is our first app — built for families and friends who want to coordinate gift-giving instead of guessing at it. Shared lists, extended family circles, and reminders that keep everyone on the same page, all season long.
Shared gift lists that don't spoil the surprise — claim a gift and the giver stays hidden from the recipient.
Circles for grandparents, in-laws, and friend groups, so everyone is coordinating from the same list.
Guardian-managed profiles let parents keep lists for kids too young for an account of their own.
Occasion tracking and reminders, so birthdays and holidays never sneak up on anyone.
“Dorea” comes from the Greek δωρεά (dōrea) — a freely given gift. It's the word Scripture uses for God's gift of grace (John 4:10; Ephesians 2:8), and it's the spirit we wanted this app to carry.
